Nucleco is a partner in the "rescEU-CBRN-DSIM-IT" project, presented on 13 February at the Veneto Regional Palace in Venice.
The presentation event was attended by Nucleco President Nadia Cherubini and the Head of the Characterisation Department, Filippo Gagliardi. The press conference was followed by a visit to the former "Calvarina" military base, which is currently being transformed into testing and training areas for the project itself, where it was possible to view examples of standard mobile laboratories.
The "rescEU-CBRN-DSIM-IT" project is the result of a fully Italian proposal funded by the European Union. Its main objective is to develop innovative physical (mobile laboratories) and human capabilities (trained and qualified personnel) for the prevention, monitoring and response to CBRN (Biological Radiological and Nuclear Chemical) events, with a specific focus on the prevention procedures relating to major events. The plan is to have these laboratories operational for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Games, thus making them safer.
The project consortium includes public entities and private companies. In addition to Nucleco, participants in the project include Enea (as coordinator), the Veneto Region, the National Fire Brigade, the SAFE Foundation, the Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome, the Luigi Sacco Hospital in Milan, the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, the Cristanini companies in Rivoli Veronese and Tomassini in Perugia.
Due to its experience in managing radioactivity and the difficulties associated with it, Nucleco participates as a specialised partner for RN threats, specifically in the design of modules dedicated to this threat, specialist training of personnel, as well as making resources available in cases where the laboratories created by the project will be called upon to operate.
