Registration opened today on
www.sogin.it for the fourth edition of
“Open Gate”, the initiative during which the Sogin Group will be opening the doors of five Italian facilities currently being decommissioned to the public, on the weekend of 11 and 12 May, to over 3,330 members of the public. Registrations are only available online, and will close on
Monday 22 April.
The event involves the four power plants of Trino (Vercelli), which achieved the world record for full power operation during the year, Caorso (Piacenza), the largest in Italy, Latina, at the time of its start-up the most powerful power plant in Europe, Garigliano (Caserta), with its characteristic "white sphere" that encloses the reactor, and for the first time the Itrec facility in Rotondella (Matera), which was the main nuclear research plant in the South of Italy.
There are two routes open to visitors: the "controlled area" and "industrial area” at the power plants in Trino, Caorso, Garigliano and Itrec plant in Rotondella, whereas only the "industrial area” route will be available in Latina. Minors aged six and older are also permitted in the “industrial area” if accompanied by an adult.
On the tours lasting about two hours, Group technicians will talk about the places that represent a piece of our country's industrial history and discuss the work they do on a daily basis, in compliance with the maximum safety criteria, to finish the dismantling of nuclear facilities and manage radioactive waste, from its storage in temporary repositories to its final storage at the National Repository.
To participate in Open Gate 2024, you need to register on the
